About Your Course
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. Osteopaths work
to restore bodies to a state of balance. This course prepares you for practice as an osteopath and your study will include a broad range of foundations in anatomy, physiology and sciences.
Modules
Modules
Core modules include:
Functional Anatomy & Clinical Biomechanics
To further develop students understanding of the biomechanical aspects of human functioning and gain an appreciation of the complexities of human movement and neuro-physiological control.
Practical Osteopathic Knowledge
This module will provide on-going opportunities for students to continue to develop a high standard of palpation; to continue to explore the selection, use, intent and modification of a wide range of osteopathic techniques to meet the identified treatment needs of individual patients; to consolidate the characteristics of reflective practice and especially the sensory knowledge as a foundation for sensitive and effective patient handling.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and modules may change from time to time.

Your Future
Opportunities
Our MOst course incorporates undergraduate with postgraduate study in four years. Most osteopathy courses are taught in smaller institutions, however as a student at Leeds Metropolitan you will benefit from wider university life. You learn in our multi-disciplinary clinic, giving you good hands-on clinical experience. External placements are also available to give you a broader view of practice. Being a small cohort this course offers you lots of personal tutor contact and uses problem based learning methods.
Future Career
On this vocational course you will develop employability skills and your personal and professional development portfolio. Most osteopaths are self employed and you will be prepared for this by studying a business and financial module in your final year. Employers are invited in to give you a broader view of healthcare and to show you examples of different experiences of working in the NHS. This course will give you professional recognition with the General Osteopathic Council.
